One of the best things about being an accounting specialist for nonprofit organizations is getting to be involved in so many great events and programs. Our Colorado clients at Freshwater Project International held their “BBQ for Freshwater” fundraiser last weekend. I was excited to attend this event to raise funds for fresh water and safe sanitation for schoolchildren in Malawi.
The BBQ was held in at Rancho Vaya Con Dios, an intimate setting in the hills of Castle Rock. A perfect Colorado sunset welcomed us onto the ranch, where we were greeted by friendly volunteers and handed a sheriff’s badge to kick off the cowboy-themed event. The tables were adorned with red bandanas and the chairs were finished off with burlap bows. The wagon wheel and Mason jar chandeliers set the mood for a wonderful event.
The dinner portion of the event began with a blessing and reflection on how fortunate we in the United States are to have the privilege of receiving clean water. The variety of food and drinks were delicious - complete with pie and ice cream for desert! The auction included beautiful paintings and photographs, massage and housecleaning services, football memorabilia, jewelry, unique BBQ sauces, and more. 100% of the proceeds from the silent and live auctions went towards supporting clean water and sanitation at schools in Malawi. By the end of the night, Freshwater International had raised more than $5,000 for these programs.
I had a great time at BBQ for Freshwater, and want to give a special shout-out to Heidi Rickels and the Freshwater International volunteers for pulling off an amazing event.
