Last fall, the National Museum of Brazil suffered a catastrophic fire that destroyed most of its priceless collection, including half a million books. Over the past several months, the Association of University Presses has been working with more than 50 of its member publishers in North America, the West Indies, Europe, and Australia to donate books in an effort to replace the museum library’s lost collection. Although restoration on the museum facilities is slow going, the institution hopes to have nearly as many volumes as before the fire by the end of 2019. AUPResses has a long history of supporting libraries and universities in need, including rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of the Asia tsunami in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
