For over 30 years, Voices for Children CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) has been supporting and improving the lives of abused and neglected children in Boulder County. Last year, this 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization was able to provide individual support to 147 children. Voices for Children is currently run by a staff of four dedicated employees, with support from their Board of Directors and approximately 100 annual CASA volunteers. CASAs are everyday citizens appointed by the court. They generally handle only one case at a time, providing that child with committed, consistent advocacy and preventing them from slipping through the cracks of the social welfare system.

The Mission

Voices for Children CASA has a mission to help abused and neglected children through the recruitment and training of volunteers who serve as CASAs under the direction of court-appointed Guardian ad Litem (GAL) attorneys. These volunteers provide investigation, advocacy, and monitoring services, and also develop supportive relationships with victimized children to help provide a safe, nurting environment. Voices for Children is committed to the idea that every abused and/or neglected child in Boulder County is entitled to an effective voice in court and to a safe, permanent home.

CASAs provide children with a continuous, dependable, encouraging adult in their lives; an adult who will tell them that they are beautiful, smart, and worthy of love!

A Child With a CASA is...

  • More likely to be adopted

  • Half as likely to re-enter foster care

  • Substantially less likely to spend time in long-term foster care

  • More likely to have a plan for permanency, especially for children of color

  • More likely to do well in school

Voices for Children CASA retains a pool of approximately 100 CASAs who support children involved in severe cases of mistreatment in Boulder County. The guidance and care that these CASA volunteers give to the children involved in the program has the capacity to change countless young lives.
