Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley is celebrating their 30th birthday this month! Since 1989, this Washtenaw County organization has built or renovated more than 200 homes and served more than 5,000 households. Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley has been an Affiliate of Distinction from 2015-2019, and has been named both the top Habitat affiliate in the country for home renovations and the top Habitat affiliate in the state for number of families served.

The Association of University Presses is hosting their annual conference this week in Detroit, Michigan. The focus of this year’s conference is on the topic of diversity and inclusion, with discussions on ways to make publishing practices and internship programs more inclusive, challenges facing mid-career people of color, how to build cultures of gender equity, and how to make digital content more accessible. As a global association for university publishing professionals, the Association of University Presses advocates for the fundamental role of scholarly publishing in achieving academic excellence and in cultivating and disseminating knowledge.

Last week, 826Michigan hosted their 10th annual Storymakers Dinner in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In this annual benefit celebration, 826Michigan partners with Zingerman’s Community of Businesses to honor writers and their stories – from national renowned novelists to emerging young writers in the Ann Arbor community. This year’s guest of honor was Cristina Henríquez, author of The Book of Unknown Americans, a New York Times Notable Book of 2014 and one of Amazon’s 10 Best Books of the Year. All proceeds from the event will support 826Michigan’s free writing and tutoring programs for school-aged children in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Detroit.

If you’re ready for some summer fun, join Reaching Higher on July 25th in St. Clair Shores, Michigan as they “Cruise for a Cause!” Set sail on an evening cruise down the Detroit River, complete with food and entertainment. Proceeds from this event will support Reaching Higher’s mission of helping young people live healthier, happier lives through leadership development.
