The Season For Giving in 2015

Outstretched hands holding a red heart.

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, and there’s no better time of year to give thanks - and give back. For nonprofits, this season includes some of the biggest year-end fundraising events, many of which exist solely or primarily online.

Many nonprofit organizations are currently gearing up for Giving Tuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. Now in its fourth year of existence, this powerhouse day of donating is observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. This year, that’s Tuesday, December 1st, 2015. Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season through a network of social media and community collaboration. Last year, Giving Tuesday partnered with over 30,000 businesses, agencies, and organizations in 68 countries and processed over $26 million in donations - a 470% increase in online donations since its beginnings in 2012.

This year, the Michigan Nonprofit Association is partnering with Razoo to help Michigan’s nonprofits makes the most of Giving Tuesday. Together, they’ve built a webpage to help nonprofits raise more money, track their progress, and win prizes from businesses, foundations, and donors during this annual day of giving. This free webinar from the Michigan Nonprofit Association explains how Michigan organizations can get involved.

In Colorado, there’s not just one day of giving - there’s two! Colorado Gives Day is a statewide movement to celebrate and increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving. While Colorado Gives operates year-round as an online giving website, it really shines on this day of donations. In its sixth year, the Community First Foundation and FirstBank are partnering to present Colorado Gives Day on Tuesday, December 8th, 2015 - one week after Giving Tuesday.

For organizations large and small, these digital days of giving can be an important part of your year-end fundraising efforts.
